The Alchemical Arts
Австралия
Добавлен 14 янв 2019
The Alchemical Arts channel is a way in which I can share my journey down the Alchemical path. The channel will be as much concerned with the practical side of Alchemical exploration as it will be with the psycho spiritual domain of the Alchemical dream.
This channel is also a look into the intricate processes that go into making many of the paints and pigments that I go on to sell. A key philosophy of The Alchemical Arts is to help artists to develop a deeper bond with the materials that they use.
So it's my hope that alongside reaching my own Alchemical goals, these videos may also aid in the process of intensifying the relationship between artists and their art - through the mediums that make it possible.

If you added soluable silver to this would it make black chromate? It’s my understanding that yellow chromate + silver = black chromate
Does anyone out there know the name/author of the book referenced and briefly shown at the beginning of the video???? Appreciate any help.
Good demo mate. I gotta ask what does the filtering between the steps achieve? Something to do with crystal growth I’m assuming.
Had to rewind this a couple of times because I had to tend to my own projects. I actually made a bit of a mess with my dye pot. My mistake was not assuming that all yuccas regardless of species were surfactant in some fashion. And so my dye pot boiled over and scattered yucca and water all over the stove. *sigh*
to get rid of the snails, instead of salt, use a container of diatomaceous earth to dry them out. that way it can go in the compost without ruining your soil!! that juice looks like fun! can that be used for dye too?
@theAlchemicalArts why did you use chalk instead of baking soda this time?
would be a difference in grinding it with a muller and with a roller machine?
Same with opium and hashish lol it help drying storing measures etc et. Rather than a sort of Mat.
Hey brother. It has been a year. You are the reason I started making my own paint and I wanna make sure you're doing alright. You know how on the insides of oak galls there are wasp eggs when you dissect em? I wanna make oil paint out of tons of wasp eggs from the galls because it's a side product and I've never read anyone doing it. It'll take hundreds of oak galls.
1:44 not true
When heat the pigment its turn white always why
Wonderfull video! thanks a lot for sharing!
He quít doing video?
I haven't just been really busy for a year now. Hopefully will get back at it soon
@@TheAlchemicalArts glad to hear that. Please take your time,I really appreciate all your works.
Brilliant!
What's the alum for?
Is the binder edible? I’m asking for a friend
Hi sir . Can talking with you ? I need your help 🙏
You said it had to be done in a cold environment but then you didn't make it cold at all? I don't understand
Oh at 29:20 is the first time you mention the temperature you are working at. I guess you forgot to tell us it was, in fact, cold!
How are transparency and lightfastness of this pigment? Did you test under the sunlight or UV?
If there not light fast no use
WOW!! What patience you have! Great demo. Beautiful color!
Fascinating process. How do you dry it? I have not seen how you filter it? Maybe, a speeded up part or just explaining the process. What did you add to it ? Walnut oil or linseed oil? Have you ever used a frosted glass plate instead of marble?
5:39 ah, beautiful sounds to send to your enemies 😂
I really appreciated your info! The long format did not bother me; I am from the 70s-80s so we have long attention spans LOL.
Thank you so much for this! Mine has flowered this year, if I harvest the flowers do you use them the same way or does that makes more yellow pigment? Or is it solely the leaves I should use and I leave the flowers to go to seed? Thank you so much again for all of your help and sharing your knowledge with us 🥰❤️❤️❤️
hellooooo very nice video... just wondering about the mill, the ball grinding mill.. could you share the brand or model? Im very instersted.
Interesting enjoyed this a lot.
Very cool pigment! Have you tried to thicken it up? I think that some combination of oils or starch could help with that
How do you discard the water left after filtering? Is it safe to pour down the drain?
Yes it is safe to just go down the drain
stop using ssshits for cats 🤢
Could you explain for us the laking process in another video? I have some genuine carmine (cochineal) but don't know how to make it into a workable pigment. Could I simply add it to a solution of hot alum? I don't want to waste this not very cheap carmine but not knowing how to work with it, I might just make a mess of it. Thank you - Jason Michael Adamik Fine Art
Hermosa cómo es la química y la naturaleza, estudiaba química pero hoy con proyecto de fibras vegetales.Gracias
Now, can you make Ultramarine Blue ? I think it requires about two weeks of kiln time...
I did the frothy mess thing once too lol… eeek
Have you tried dyeing fabric with the beautiful blue you got from the woad?
What is the soda solution?
I find it easiest to use a magnetic stirrer on low to mix my gum arabic so it doesn't stick to the sides. Start it spinning and watch TV for 20 minutes and its ready.
How much clove oil do you recommend putting into this recipe? You didn’t mention it in the description
Ciao grazie per i tuoi video davvero istruttivi ed interessanti ... Volevo solo chiederti se ho capito bene ...hai aggiunto 3 gr di allume e 10 grammi di carbonato di calcio ? Grazie
Do you not have refrigerator? I guess I misheard you when I thought you said the temperature needs to be low. From what I saw you do, I think I am going to mix up some sacked lime (Calcium hydroxide, or quick lime and water) and throw in some copper sulfate (because I have some on hand) and toss it in the fridge to see if anything happens in the next interminably long period of time, or less. Inert smiley face icon here ---X I'm sure if I had some copper nitrate and limestone in a refrigerated jar it would be English-a-riffic blue sooner or later but the sacked lime and copper sulfate seems a bit sketchy. What the heck ... sounds easy and fun.
Could you create this and then very evenly mix it with a resin, grind that up very finely, and then apply a strong magnetic field to separate the powder granules with the most product in it. Then you could mix this in with the linseed oil to make a blue oil paint that won't turn green.
Love this, I hope to see more of your endeavours ❤
You are doing a great effort. I'm glad you're safe. Thank you for sharing your experience
Nice demo. I feel like a scientist now...
❤
You think it is possible to Lake Purpleheart hardwood? It has a lovely purple colour, I wonder how the Alum would affect it.
Brilliantly explained again. Just waited a month for some stil le grain from India......I was speechless how tiny amount there was, less than half an oxo cube. If in doubt diy, this is a great channel.
Always the go to channel for historical pigments, thanks.
